What Is Garlic Sauce?
Garlic sauce is a sauce based on mayonnaise or fry sauce with added garlic. In the Netherlands, parsley is often added to garlic sauce, but this is not common in other countries. This distinguishes Dutch garlic sauce from garlic sauces elsewhere in the world.
Different Types of Garlic Sauce
There are many different types of garlic sauce. Garlic sauce can be made using mayonnaise with a high oil content, but also with fry sauce, which contains less oil and more sweeteners, giving it a different taste compared to the mayonnaise-based variant. The type of garlic used is also very important. Garlic sauce can be made with fresh garlic or garlic powder. Abroad, you’ll find many varieties of garlic sauce such as aioli from Spain and toum, a sauce widely used in Turkey and Egypt.
Usage
In the Netherlands, garlic sauce is widely used with BBQ dishes and, of course, the ever-popular shoarma sandwich with garlic sauce.
