About seven years ago, Leo de Ree and Atsje Schilstra took over the business from the previous owner and decided to take it in a completely new direction. With elegant dishes, wine pairings, and a welcoming atmosphere, this couple has taken the restaurant to a new level.

Leo was first introduced to Grenada Gold deep-frying oil nearly twenty years ago through a former employer. So when they opened De Koperen Kees, the choice of deep-frying oil was an easy one.

“The advantage of Grenada Gold is that the boxes are stackable and easy to lift. The oil lasts a long time and doesn’t leave an unpleasant frying smell,” says Leo. “Plus, it’s a product made right here in Friesland. We love working with regional products, and Grenada Gold is a great example of that!”

They also use Levo mayonnaise and ketchup. “The mayonnaise is used in our dressings and served with various dishes. After tasting it for the first time, we were immediately convinced. Since then, we’ve only used Levo’s mayonnaise.”
